Hundreds of additional COVID-19 cases announced in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa. (KMTV) — The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced 389 additional COVID-19 cases and one death on Sunday.

Sixty-seven percent of Sunday's additional cases can be attributed to surveillance testing of meat processing facilities.

Over 1,000 tests were conducted for Tyson and National Beef employees combined.

At Tyson, 84 employees tested positive while 177 tested positive at National Beef.

There are currently 2,902 positive COVID-19 cases in Iowa with 75 deaths.

According to the health department, there have been an additional 1,214 negative tests with a total of 21,648 negative tests to date.

Additionally, 198 Iowans are currently hospitalized and 1,171 have recovered from COVID-19.

The new death involves an adult 61-80 years old in Muscatine County.
