POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, Ia. (KMTV) -- Pottawattamie County is preparing for a vaccine.

The Pottawattamie County Public Health Department released its COVID-19 vaccine strategy. The department started working with the Iowa Department of Public Health and other partners to discuss how they would allocate and distribute the vaccine. The plan includes three phases.

Phase one will have a limited supply of vaccines for healthcare workers, first responders and long-term care facilities. Phase two will kick in when more doses are available; that's when the public can get the vaccine from healthcare providers, community health centers and public health dispensing sites.

In phase three , everyone else will be able to get it at places like Walgreens or CVS.

Public Health officials expect phase one to start mid-December.
