OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — We've hit nearly four weeks since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.
Here in the United States, health officials are warning us that we are just at the beginning of this battle.
Dr. Ali Khan, the Dean of UNMC’s College of Public Health, says in the United States we need to be prepared for more than one surge.
“In the United States, we are actually going into the peak of our epidemic. Back on March 3, I believe we only had 103 cases or so. We are slowly increasing the projections that we will reach our peak somewhere towards the end of April, mid-May then start falling off into June and July.”
Khan says there is evidence that even after the first peak, the United States could see another smaller surge sometime in the fall.
He expects we will be better prepared at that point.
