OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — For Bill Pickett, the spirit of tradition at UNO has turned his garage into "Durango Care Package Central." He and his team of volunteers are putting together hundreds of care packages full of goodies for students.

"Bill always does great things for all the students, and so this is a great way for them to relax at home and take their mind off of finals," said volunteer Lindsay Jorgensen

Yes, it is pre-finals week and Pickett wants to give the kids a break and enjoy something, simple, sweet and fun.

They've been assembling for about a week, thinking they would only assemble a couple hundred at first, but that quickly turned into more than a thousand. Some re-enforcement was needed.

Pickett has recruited his kids and neighbors to help with the project.

Since some kids don't live in the state. Their boxes will be mailed to them, with some going to places like New Mexico and Australia.
