In the Classroom: Omaha Kiwanis Golden K members reach students through reading

Every week, members of the Kiwanis Club of Omaha Golden K reach out to young learners at Conestoga Elementary and Franklin Elementary in North Omaha.

John Young is a retired elementary school teacher. He looks forward to reading with students every week, "we want these kids to like reading because that allows you to have a lifelong hobby, you become a lifelong learner and you're never bored if  you like to read."

The students enjoy it too. Marasia Harris is in sixth grade. She says, "usually the reader bonds with most of the class and then the class is like, 'pick me, I wanna read.'"

The Golden K also hosts a few book giveaways every year. Students take those books home with them.
