Two men are accused of sneaking into homes while the residents slept and stealing various items from inside.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says two people are in custody in connection with burglaries in west Omaha.

Investigators say 19-year-old Johnathan Minassian and 21-year-old Jayden Torticill would sneak into homes, mostly west of 180th Street, through garages that were left open overnight.

“The suspects would rummage through unlocked vehicles in the garage and enter the homes, taking items such as wallets, purses and smaller electronic devices,” officials said in a prepared statement Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Office says they found stolen goods, including two big screen TVs, inside their home after serving a search warrant on Tuesday.

Minassian was later taken into custody to face charges of burglary, tampering with evidence, theft by receiving stolen property over $1,500 and two counts of unauthorized us of a financial transaction device.

Torticill was arrested Wednesday morning.

They also urge residents to remember to double-check their garage doors before going to bed and locking vehicles in the garage.
