FREMONT COUNTY, Iowa (KMTV) — The Fremont County Sheriff's Office arrested two suspects and seized more than 110 pounds of marijuana following a traffic stop that shifted into an 85-mile chase.

Deputies witnessed a driver speeding on Highway 2 near the Missouri River by Pacific Junction, Iowa. During the stop, the deputies observed the smell of marijuana and a K9 unit was called in but the driver, 22-year-old Cardell Crawford of Kansas City, Missouri allegedly drove off, leading police an on an 85-mile chase.

During the pursuit, deputies witnessed the vehicle traveling at speeds reaching 130 miles per hour as it headed south along Interstate 29 towards and past the Missouri border where other law enforcement agencies joined in.

The vehicle was finally brought to a stop using spike strips on Interstate 29 near St. Joseph, Missouri where a Fremont County K9 found more than 110 pounds of marijuana in it.

The driver, Crawford, was arrested for:

  • Felony Eluding
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Over 50 Kilograms of Marijuana
  • Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp
  • Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance

The passenger of the vehicle, 23-year-old Brianca Williams of Kansas City, Missouri was arrested for:

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Over 50 Kilograms of Marijuana
  • Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp
  • Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance

Williams and Crawford are both being held in Andrew County, Missouri and are awaiting extradition back to Iowa.
