Kora the dog craves attention and the stunt she pulled over the weekend has a lot of people talking.
“It’s one of those things that will be talked about down here for quite a while I’m sure,” said Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Dept. Lt. Jon Hardy.
On Saturday night Kora’s owner Wes McGuirk and his roommate Jack Armstrong could hear Kora, but couldn’t see her.
“We kept hearing her whimper over here somewhere,” said Jack Armstrong.
The pair never expected to look up and spot the missing pup.
“Then all of the sudden we realized it was coming from up there,” said Armstrong.
Kora had jumped a five foot fence and somehow climbed 20 feet up a tree.
“I've been doing this for 12 years and when they told us it was a 120 pound Great Dane 20 feet up in a tree that math usually doesn't add up,” said Hardy.
Lt. Jon Hardy with the Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department says when they were dispatched to the call he and his crew thought they were being pranked.
“We drove in and I looked out my window and I thought yeah, there is a 120 lb dog up in that tree,” said Hardy.
The big dog wasn’t budging.
“Luckily the Cass County Sheriff’s Office K-9 handler was there and we were able to get a harness from him that he uses on his dog,” said Hardy.
Kora was slowly lowered down from the tree. With a few feet left to go, Kora’s weight broke the harness. Luckily some of the rescue crew from Elmwood and Plattsmouth broke her fall. Kora trotted away as if she’d never been stuck in a tree.
Kora’s owner says he thinks a raccoon or squirrel got her up in the tree, but hopes she never does it again.
