As the winter storm makes its way in the Omaha area, the 511 system said they are geared up and prepared to keep you safe.
The 511 centers are responsible for monitoring roadways and work closely with the Nebraska State Patrol.
The centers have multiple screens showing cameras scattered throughout the metro looking at various highways across the metro.
"They keep an eye on the roads, gives us a head up on any potential bad areas they are our eyes in the sky basically," said NDOT Highway Maintenance Superintendent Jim Laughlin.
Crews will be working 12-hour shifts on Thursday and roughly 40 snow plows will be on the roads according to Laughlin.
The centers are also responsible for the electronic message boards across the state, warning of closing and road conditons.
