A member of the Papio-Missouri NRD board was killed in a accident near his home Sunday evening.
Washington County Sheriff's deputies say 60 year old Scott Japp was trying to unload an antique miniature bulldozer from a trailer and got pinned between the bulldozer and the rear end of a truck. Japp was pronounced dead at the scene.
Japp had been running for his third term on the Papio-Missouri River NRD board. His two previous terms had been marked by disagreements with other board members over dam construction plans, the district's tax levy and other issues.
The Papio-Missouri NRD issued this statement on Japp's death: "We at the NRD were saddened to learn of the passing of Director Scott Japp. He had been on our board since 2008. Scott had been a strong voice for the people of Subdistrict 1. His background knowledge of soil construction and agriculture was a great asset to the NRD. He was a very active board member and always tried to look out for the NRD's mission of soil conservation. We send our condolences to the family and the community on his passing.
