Today - a big announcement is filling an empty storefront at Midtown Crossing.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is taking over the old Marcus Midtown theater location, which closed its doors Sunday.

The change is ambitious, as organizers say they will have the new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema open before the end of 2018.

Before they can open the doors, there's a lot of work to be done inside the theater.

"We've got about $2.5 million dollars in renovations planned for this space, so for the people who have been there before don't expect it to be the same when you come back said Derek Dillon, marketing manager at Alamo Drafthouse.

Renovations include:

Included in the renovations:

  • 5-screen theater
  • Recliner seats
  • Liquid Sunshine Taproom bar

Alamo is also taking over the Monday Night Movies in Turner Park. A full schedule of the films they have scheduled is available on their website, drafthouse.com.
