Ash trees removed along Omaha airport route

Posted

A popular route to the airport is getting a makeover. Nearly 90 ash trees in the center islands of Abbott Drive are being replaced by a mix of mature trees.

Officials said removing these trees will get ahead of any potential problems, caused by emerald ash borers. The trees are also on the decline.

"Behind me here, we have locusts. If you'll drive the corridor of Abbott Drive, you will see that locusts have been successful here in the center islands and doing well,” said Mike Fink, manager at Lanoha Nurseries.

The project is expected to take up to a month and a half.
