Fiancé of deceased Malmo woman arrested on first-degree murder charges

Update:

Nebraska State Patrol says an arrest has been made in connection to the homicide of 27-year-old Kayla Matulka. Her fiancé, 25-year-old Kolton Barnes, has been lodged in Saunders County Jail for first-degree murder and felony animal cruelty.

In addition to discovering Matulka's body, a deceased dog was also found in the residence.

The investigation is ongoing and includes several arms of the Nebraska State Patrol and the Saunders County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities are investigating a homicide of a 27-year-old woman that took place in Malmo.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., the Saunders County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a deceased woman at a residence.

The Sheriff's Office asked Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) investigators to respond to the scene after locating the victim, who had suffered several stab wounds.

According to NSP, the victim has been identified as 27-year-old Kayla Matulka, who was a resident at the home.

Investigators don't believe there's a threat to the public at this time.

The investigation continues.
