Bellevue police are investigating a possible “sexting” situation at Logan Fontenelle Middle School from earlier in September. A staff member notified authorities a nude photo of a student was circulating to other kids.
Court documents indicate a 13-year-old girl sent a nude photo to a 13-year-old boy, who then forwarded the image to 5 other Logan Fontenelle students.
Investigators have obtained about half a dozen phones through search warrants, and are awaiting the results of forensic testing. No arrests have been made for child pornography.
Elizabeth Power with the Women's Center for Advancement says it's important to talk to your kids about the dangers of “sexting.”
“Sometimes the reality is there might be someone in your relationship, a boyfriend or girlfriend, who might ask for photos like this and they’re going to have to respond without mom and dad right there with them. They’re going to have to be confident enough to say no I don’t want to do this, or I don’t think we’re ready for this,” Power explained.
The WCA also says don't be afraid to talk to your children. It's better to have that uncomfortable conversation for them to be charged with a crime.
