Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say that they recovered the body of a boater who has been missing since Sunday afternoon from Missouri River downstream from Hamburg, IA.
Officials say 42-year-old Jason Grayson of Elliot, had been missing after the boat he was a passenger on capsized and was swept under a barge moored to the bank downstream from the Hamburg Mitchell Access Landing.
According to Iowa officials, 47-year-old Johnnie Fields, was the operator of the boat and was able to swim under the barge where he was rescued from the shore by witnesses.
Officials added that both Fields and Grayson had just launched the 16-foot aluminum, v-bottomed fishing boat on Sunday, when the boat motor stalled.
"The current of the river pulled the boat approximately 120-yards downstream and under the moored barge," officials said in the statement.
Officials recovered the boat on Tuesday evening.
Grayson’s body was found Wednesday in the Missouri River near the Iowa-Missouri border.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources are still investigating.
