A car is sitting on Lake Wanahoo in Wahoo, but no need to worry, it is there on purpose.

The Wahoo Lions Club has put the car there for a fundraiser, and they are waiting to see how long it takes to sink into the water.

“It hopefully really draws attention, the public's attention to why the car is out there,” said Steve Sallenbach, who is the treasure for the Wahoo Lions Club.

He said they got this fundraising idea when they saw a similar one done in Iowa.

“We think it will be kind of fun, something different that nobody has seen around this area,” said Sallenbach.
The group it selling 720 tickets for $10 each, each ticket has a time on it, so there is a chance at winning a AM or PM time.

The car has a clock inside of it, and once the car sinks into the water, the clock will stop and whoever has the ticket with the correct time, wins $1,000

“That's some good odds, better then the Powerball,” said Joe Spicka, who owns the Corner Market and is selling the tickets for Lions Club.

He said there has been a lot of talk about the car sitting on the lake.

“There is a lot of interest in it, a lot of fun,” said Spicka.

The Sid Dillon dealership in Wahoo donated the car, and when it goes into the lake it won’t hurt anything.

“The car has been stripped; the motor, the transmission, the oils and the fluids have been removed from the car so we don't contaminate the lake,” said Sallenbach.

The Lions Club will take all the proceeds from the ticket sales and give it back to the community.

Sallenbach is one of the few people who hopes the winter weather hangs around a bit longer so the car can sit for a few more weeks. “we hope it stays cold for a little longer.”
