We're experiencing some of the coldest days so far this season and warming up your car makes sense. But area police say there's ways to protect your car without turning into a victim of theft.
Council Bluffs police tell us they are seeing an increase in stolen vehicles left running to warm up. this morning the department is urging people to stay with their vehicles if they don't have remote start. It's also a good idea to not leave keys or remote garage openers in plain view either. And with the holiday shopping season in full swing, police say it's best to remove other valuable items from your vehicle.
Police say if your car is stolen and you see it around town, don't try to approach it.
Instead, call 9-1-1.
