OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — In late December, a young cat named King was left with burns to about 50% of his body after being rescued from a house fire.
After intensive care from the Nebraska Humane Society, including the successful use of tilapia skin as a bandage, NHS said Sunday that King has healed enough to go home.
"He'll finish recovering in comfort, at home with his family, and surrounded by attention," NHS said in a Twitter post.
While King will need check-ups, stitch removal and at least one more surgery, NHS believes healing at home is what's best for now.

After intensive wound care, and several skin surgeries, King has healed enough from his burns that it's now safe for him to leave the NHS medical center. He'll finish recovering in comfort, at home with his family, and surrounded by attention. pic.twitter.com/PhkI80Z8Vt
He still looks a little rough, and will need check-ups, stitch removal and at least one more surgery. But we know that healing at home is the best medicine for him right now. pic.twitter.com/fJlWrmieyE
