When Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert was elected in 2013, her salary was voluntarily reduced by 10 percent said Omaha City Council Member Amy Melton. Today, the council voted to increase salaries for both Stothert and council members.

The vote, which passed 4-3, will set in motion a three percent raise annually beginning in 2023.

So in 2023, the mayor will make just over $114,000 and council members will make over $41,000.

The mayor and council members will need to win reelection in 2021 to receive the pay raise.

Stothert has already signed the bill, electing not to veto it.

The council also voted in an ordinance making it illegal to park in city bike lanes.

Previously, the city posted signs to discourage it but it still happened. The ordinance passed by a vote of 7-0.
