City says weekend snow removal was a success

It was the first snow fall of the season over the weekend and the City of Omaha says everything went well on their end.

The Omaha Public Works Department doesn't handle the interstates, but plows all other streets.
The Omaha Street Maintenance Department says Saturday afternoon they had about 35 plows on the roads and late in the evening they were full force.  About 100-110 trucks were plowing and putting salt on all major thoroughfares and in residential areas.  Public works says they were ready for rain but quickly adapted to the snowy conditions.

They said they only had a few complaints.

"I was really proud of our people the way that they adapted and changed in light of the conditions.  We were able to react and get out in front of conditions as things changed from what was forecasted," said Austin Rowser, City of Omaha Street Maintenance Engineer.

The city says even though it was a light event it is good practice for the future.

The Omaha Street Maintenance Dept. says they now have their sights on Wednesday, and will be watching the forecast for any possible snow.
