A Catholic shrine, visible from I-80 in Gretna with pristine views continues to be difficult to get to.

A road repair project that was expected to be finished by the end of June was extended.

The road has been closed for a year due to eroding parts of the road, but construction only started weeks ago.

Sarpy County extended the repairs on Pflug Road all the way from Highway 31 to the Holy Family Shrine. The repairs to Pflug road were supposed to start in April but were delayed until the end of May.

The chapel, which relies solely on donations is seeing a twenty percent decrease in visitors.

Visitors have to follow the signs along a two-mile detour which includes dirt roads.

Bridget Chatterson, who works at the chapel says despite the detour, the visit to the shrine is worth it, and encourages visitors to visit.

The roads are expected to reopen in 3-4 weeks, weather permitting.
