Smoke from Fontenelle Forest could be visible from Council Bluffs to Papillion Wednesday afternoon.
Officials were conducting a controlled burn with volunteer firefighters setting brush on fire. The practice helps clear out vegetation and re-nourish the soil so the oak trees at the forest can continue to grow.
The smoke and blaze may linger for a few days. Officials say not to worry because it is under control.
Prescribed burns are scheduled throughout the season.
