HOOPER, Neb. (KMTV) – Costco Wholesale Corporation announced on Friday that they are the company behind the poultry processing plant to be built in Dodge County.

Executives answered questions Sunday afternoon from residents in the greater Fremont area about the complex.

"There's a lot of positives when you think about all the people who need to be employed,” said Costco Vice President of Merchandising Jeff Lyons. “When you think of all the construction that'll take place, all the industry that will take place in this neck of the woods, that's going to need to support that grow out, it should be really good for the whole state, but really good for this community."

Lyons said the company chose Dodge County because of the prime access to corn and soy meal, which feeds the poultry.

The controversial issue drew hundreds from surrounding towns to protest the plant at a town hall meeting in Nickerson just two weeks ago.

"We want to listen to them, that's why we've been here this past week, and we've had people on the ground as to meet with the community members,” Lyons said, “but sometimes people might not understand the benefits of a company, they might just understand the negatives."

The plant is expected to bring about 1,100 jobs to the area.
