CWS prepared in case severe weather hits

Severe storms may roll in Friday, Saturday

As fans flock to Omaha to see their favorite baseball teams play, organizers with the College World Series are working to keep the fans safe here in Omaha.

A major part of that plan is dealing with what Mother Nature dishes out.

Some weather models have potentially severe storms coming in Friday night and Saturday night when the CWS opening ceremonies and games will be going on.

MECA communications director Kristi Andersen tells 3 News Now, they have plans in place for bad weather, “We're discussing weather as it comes all of the time, we watch several other weather monitoring services.”

Andersen said they have an in-house meteorologist on site at all times when the games are going on to keep tabs on the weather.

It’s ultimately the NCAA’s decision on whether to delay or cancel a game due to weather. But there’s things fans can do too to make sure they are safe.

“Listen to the instructions of the ushers and the event staff that are here they are trained to get people to safe locations but then pay attention to the large scoreboard and that we will be running different messages throughout the ball game on what fans can expect and if we do need them to get out of their seats,” said Andersen.

TD Ameritrade Park also has an overhang fans can use to get out of the rain and if the weathers becomes more severe, fans can take shelter inside the CenturyLink Center just a block away.

You are allowed to bring inside the park a clear water bottle, a small umbrella. Large umbrellas are not allowed in.
