The Army has notified Congress that it will allow the Dakota Access pipeline to move forward.
The Justice Department filed court documents Tuesday that the Army Corps of Engineers will allow the pipeline to go under Lake Oahe in North Dakota. That permission could be granted as early as Wednesday. That crossing is needed to complete the pipeline.
The Standing Rock Sioux tribe has been fighting the pipeline, saying a leak would threaten drinking water and because the pipeline goes through sacred tribal ground. It's promised to continue fighting in the courts.
