Lancaster County Sheriff deputies say a day care operator has been cited for child abuse after a 2-year-old girl was exposed to THC last Monday near Hickman.

According to officials, they were detailed to Bryan Hospital's Emergency Room after the 2-year-old girl's parents brought her in for being lethargic, sleepy and not acting normal.

Emergency Room officials discovered the child was suffering from THC exposure.

Lancaster County Sheriff 's investigation revealed the girl's day care provider had baked marijuana brownies over the weekend and used the same pan to bake cookies for her day care children.

Officials say the level of THC in the child is not known, pending laboratory tests, however they say the girl was admitted to the hospital for observation.

The day care facility is located in a home and is licensed by the state of Nebraska.

According to authorities, 31-year-old Michelle Nicklas, who runs the day care was contacted and cited for child abuse.

Officials say eight  pre-school and two school age children currently attend the daycare.

Authorities contacted the other parents and urged to have their children tested for THC.

The day care faculty is closed at this time as a result of the investigation.
