Ditch the line and get your license faster

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Waiting in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is something most of us wish we could get out of. Luckily, Nebraska's DMV says there's a way you can cut down on your wait in Lincoln and Omaha.

If you're applying for your Operator's License (Class O), and have already passed the written portion, the DMV says you can schedule your drive test appointment. Those who do so will need to arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled time and will be able to "take their drive test right away."

In the future, the DMV says they hope to expand online services in other areas such as renewals as well.

“We are excited the online appointment system for car drive tests has eliminated wait times for many of our customers, allowing them to choose an appointment which fits their schedule,” said Rhonda Lahm, Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles. “We are constantly seeking ways to make the services we provide more efficient and customer focused, and being able to make an appointment online, is another step to making a visit to the DMV as efficient as possible. We intend to expand the online appointment system to other types of services, such as renewals and address changes, later this year.”

The DMV says online appointments were launched earlier this year and that 3,495 people have used them.
