A Bellevue police officer shot and killed a German Shepard late Friday afternoon following reports of a dangerous dog on the loose.

According to the police report, several children called on an officer to 2512 Franklin Street where they regularly see the dog, growling as they walk by.

The Officer approached the dog's home on foot to talk with the homeowner. As the officer approached, the dog, who was loose in the yard, went toward the Officer aggressively; snarling, barking, and growling. The Officer then made the decision to shoot the animal.

The owner of the dog was cited for not registering, licensing or vaccinating his pet.

The Officer involved remains on regular duty as assigned.
