Douglas County election officials expect a 23 percent voter turnout for next week's Nebraska primary election.
Election Commissioner Brian Kruse says the 23 percent prediction is within the turnout range based on past primary elections. "The number of new registered voters in Douglas County since January 2016 has been strong, so I'm optimistic that the number of voters participating in this election will also be strong" said Kruse. The voter turnouts for previous statewide primary elections were 16.6 percent in 2008, 12.0 percent in 2010, 23.8 percent in 2012, and 20.6 percent in 2014.
As of April 29, 2016, there were 331,509 Douglas County residents registered to vote, including 126,975 Democrats, 126,220 Republicans, 2,480 Libertarians, and 75,834 Nonpartisan. A turnout of 23 percent would result in 76,247 votes cast.
The primary election is Tuesday May 10th. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
