Dozens rally downtown to protest Trump's response to Charlottesville violence

Posted

The racially charged violence that ignited in Charlottesville, Va., over the weekend spurred a demonstration in Omaha on Wednesday night.

Dozens of people gathered Wednesday night at the Gene Leahy Mall.

Those at the rally said they wanted to highlight President Donald Trump's calling out of "both sides" in Charlottesville to take blame, including those standing up against neo-Nazis.

"The fact that it took so long for Trump to disavow what happened in Charlottesville, and to even name what went on is alarming to me," demonstrator Jill Anderson said.

The president has since disbanded two White House business councils in the latest fallout from his comments.
