Dual Language Academy opens in Omaha

Posted

At the Dual Language Academy at the Old Saint Stanislaus near 40th and J, you could hear a mix of English and Spanish on the first day of school.

The Dual Language Academy is the first Catholic school in the area to teach classes in both languages. Currently, there are a full pre-school and kindergarten classes with plans to expand in the future.

"Coming to a school where you can look at the faces of your friends and your classmates and see what our world looks like is really a great gift," Executive Director of the Omaha Catholic School Consortium Chris Nelson said.

The Archdiocese plans to start first-grade classes next year and officials say the ultimate goal is for students to be able to read, write and speak in both languages by eighth grade.
