If your Memorial Day holiday weekend plans included spending time on the Elkhorn River, you're going to have to change them.
Due to continued high water, the Papio-Missouri NRD will keep the Elkhorn River access sites in Douglas County closed through the holiday weekend. "It's very unfortunate to have these river access sites closed over this holiday weekend but continuing high water flows and forecasted rainy conditions here and upstream have left us no choice," said John Winkler, Papio-Missouri River NRD General Manager. "River users should also realize that the storm water runoff, that causes this high water, brings unhealthy water quality conditions that should be considered hazardous to health."
The closed Elkhorn River access sites include Elkhorn Crossing near 252nd Street and Bennington Road., Graske Crossing off West Dodge Road and the West Maple Road site.
The NRD's Platte River Landing park and river access near Highway 64 remains open.
