The opening of Emery's Cafe in North Omaha is bringing business back to the Fair Deal Village.

Emery's just opened a week ago and is already getting high marks from the community.

It's not just a restaurant for North Omaha.

The southern style cuisine is for the entire city to enjoy.

There's a new restaurant in town.

"It's always great to have a black owned business in town," said Tyrell Tealer.

The old Fair Deal Cafe is now Emery's Cafe.

"it's new to the Fair Deal Market Place and we are very excited to have them here," said Terri Sanders.

With a new chef and new management Emery's is serving up southern style food for the entire city.

"There is a chef, Chef Mike who cooks excellent food," said Sanders.

The city agrees.

"I'm actually getting two meals today for myself," said Norman Grayson.

The restaurant has only been open for a week but Norman Grayson says he's already eaten here several times.

"The rib eye, rib eye steak dinner, I also had the stuffed cornish hens," said Grayson.

Grayson enjoys the menu so much, today he invited his friends.

"It's a nice atmosphere, seems like a pretty comfortable spot to be at, lots of people in and out," said Tealer.

"So seems like it will be a great spot for the community," said Tealer.

The North Omaha Economic Development Corporation says bringing a cafe back to the Fair Deal Village Market Place has been good for business.

"If the cafe is busy then they are busy," said Sanders.

"People sitting and eating notice the retailers, go over and visit, and that just sends up our economic growth," said Sanders.

Receiving so much positive feedback, the community says this time they'd like to see a cafe that stays.

"I'm happy it's here, hopefully it's here to stay for long," said Grayson.

Emery's Cafe's Chef Mike Valli comes to Omaha from Atlanta and manager and owner Diamond Simms is from this area.
