Nebraska fans are under fire from an environmental group with 65,000 likes on Facebook called "Balloons Blow."
A post on the group's page showed a person in New York holding a Husker balloon found on the beach.
The post has gained traction with more than 1,600 likes and 2,500 shares. Husker fans, however, were quick to jump in and defend themselves.
Balloons Blow unsuccessfully tried to get Nebraska to stop its tradition of releasing balloons in August. Clemson, another school with a longstanding tradition of releasing balloons, stopped doing so this year.
