Last month Verizon dropped some rural customers and now some say the carrier is hitting them with fees.
They say the cellular giant is breaking its promise to pay them back for their costs after switching plans.
Laurie Van Scoy says it's been a headache dealing with Verizon after they offered her something she thought would make life easier.
"We had just within the last six months changed to unlimited which was something they offered to us," said Laurie Van Scoy.
In September Van Scoy says she got a letter saying Verizon was ending their unlimited family plan.
"They told us we were being dropped because we were using a lot of data off non Verizon towers because we are not in their coverage area," Van Scoy said.
Over the phone she says the company promised to pay any leftover fees.
"They told us they were going to pay our last month's bills because we were going to have difficulty switching our phones over," Van Scoy said.
Then she says Verizon hit her with another bill and a broken promise.
"It was $1,158, which is way over what your phone bill would be," Van Scoy said.
"They had no record of that phone call," Van Scoy said.
Just yesterday she got a message saying the bill was covered.
Although others say they haven’t been so lucky.
"I had a Google Pixel and that's exclusive to Verizon,” said Tara Eggleston.
Eggleston says she still has a balance.
"It’s a lot of money, so I hope that $500 gets taken care of," said Eggleston.
After this they say they'll never do business with Verizon again.
"We are expected to pay our bill on time, which we did, but yet they can step out of the contract whenever they want and tell you whatever they want" Van Scoy said.
Verizon says this is a case by case situation and they are committed to working with each customer.
