The family of Monroe Evans III is demanding transparency from the Omaha Police Department because they believe all the facts aren’t on the table.

It's been just over a week since 20-year-old Evans, or as his family calls him Trey, was shot several times after an altercation with police.

Now his sister wants to know more about how it unfolded-and wants OPD to release the audio tapes for clarity.

“We feel like there's some discrepancies between what we've heard,” said Beau Fisher, Evans’ sister.

Fisher said there’s a lot of questions into what happened that afternoon.

“They haven't been in communication with us in a way that we feel is appropriate, we're looking for some accountability as to why my brother was shot so many times,” said Fisher.

On January 30th, officers were called to 33rd and Turner Park for a man looking into vehicles.

When the officers arrived--they say Evans wasn't listening to them, a struggle ensued.

OPD said Evans pulled a gun and shot officer Jill Schillerberg in the leg.

Both Schillerberg and another officer  fired 12 shots.

“But from what transpired between him searching in cars and him being shot at 12 times, 9 of those bullets hitting him this is a big question that we have-how did it go from here to here,” said Fisher.

While Fisher said they aren't arguing Evans’ innocence they just want to know the full story.

“This isn't about vindicating him, it is about getting to the bottom of the facts and having that accountability for our peace of mind and peace of mind for families to come,” said Fisher.

OPD told KMTV, the department cannot speak about the investigation at this time because everything will come out in court proceedings.

While Fisher's questions may not be answered now, she doesn't want this struggle to happen to another family.

“He's a person and I don't feel like he was treated like a person on that day,” said Fisher.

Evans is still in critical condition-and Fisher said still fighting for his life in the hospital.

Ficher said Evan’s will be paralyzed.

A demonstration to release the audio tapes will be held outside OPD headquarters this Friday for two hours--11am to 1 pm.
