Omaha Police have released the names of those involved in Wednesday's fatal van crash on the Interstate 680 North on-ramp off I-80 West.
Silvano Torres, 58, of Omaha, who was declared dead at the scene by Omaha Fire, was unrestrained and riding in the rear cargo area of the van, according to a Friday press release from OPD.
Nemias Garcia-Velasco, 32, the driver, is being treated at Nebraska Medicine for severe burns to his lower legs; and Jesus I Gonzalez, 16, the front-seat passenger, was treated and released the day of the crash, the release states.
The crash remains under investigation; however, authorities have stated that speed and alcohol were believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
The I-680 North on-ramp from I-80 West closed for a few hours Wednesday afternoon following the crash, diverting traffic to either continue along I-80 West or take the Center and I-L-Q streets exit while investigators processed the scene. NDOR and NSP assisted with traffic control.
