Field Club's 'No excuses university' program prepares students for college

With every assignment, these first graders at Field Club Elementary are preparing for their future.

 Options are endless with signs pointing to colleges like UNL or Iowa State.

This school is now "no excuses university."

Field Club is the only school in Nebraska participating in the national program which exposes every child to the possibility of attending college.

“Students who know where they're going act differently than students who don't,” said Barbara Wild, principal at Field Club.

Field Club is an Elementary School but everywhere you turn there are signs talking about colleges, college preparation. Well, it turns out there's a reason why

 Field Club is the only school in Nebraska participating in the national program which exposes every child to the possibility of attending college.

Each classroom partnered with a college.

15 in all from in and out of state including UNO and Iowa state.  

 The name ‘no excuses’ is straightforward.

Mrs. Fisher's class is paired with Iowa State.

Students send pen-pal letters, learn the school's fight song.. And wear yellow and red on Fridays.

It'll be a while before students know exactly where they want to go.

In the meantime, teachers start with the basics.

“Without really strong reading, writing, math and thinking skills, doors will be closed for them, said Wild.

 College students show them how those skills got them to where they are --

 Barely a year into the program, Field Club is proud of its work.

A teacher made this video for country singer Brad Paisley hoping he visits during his college tour and it worked.

Showing everyone at this university anything is possible, if you work at it.
