OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Memorial day weekend tends to be the start of boating season, but this year your options to get out on the water, whether on boat or another way, are limited.

Papio Natural Resources district says all Elkhorn River access sites remain closed due to flood damage and unsafe river conditions. The owner of Tubing & Adventures, the tubing, kayaking, and camping facility located on the Elkhorn River says they most likely won't be open this weekend due to water level concerns and flood debris. Dodge Park Lake remains closed for the same reasons. Wilson Island State Park is closed, and the river ramp at Manawa State Park is also closed. If you do decide to get into the rivers this weekend, be safe, as the strong current can be a safety concern.

"Make sure you have life jackets for everybody on board, make sure you have your horn or whistle, fire extinguisher, the fire extinguisher is not expired it's still up to date, all your life jackets are in working order, no rips, tears, things like that," says Adan Gacke, Conservation Officer for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Also be sure to let someone know what ramp you are using, where you are going, and what time you plan on being done.
