This year's influenza season is expected to last longer than seasons in the past, according to local doctors.
Last week alone, more than 450 cases of the flu were diagnosed in Douglas County. County health officials say roughly 2900 cases have been confirmed throughout flu season.
Usually the flu season lasts around 20 weeks, Nebraska Medicine Dr. Alberto Marcelin, but numbers this year show the flu virus isn't losing momentum.
Nebraska Medicine responded by opening two pop-up flu clinics at Chalco and Clarkson Family Medicine clinic locations.
"The flu season has been on-going and its not getting any better," Dr. Marcelin said. "Usually it would last about 20 weeks, but unfortunately this year it is still carrying on and we've seen that on records and data everywhere. So if you need us, we're here for you."
The clinics will remain open for the rest of flu season.
