The Alliance for a Better Omaha is teaming up with the Omaha Public Library to restock shelves at local pantries.
The Food for Fines program is going on right now and for every canned food item you donate, you'll receive credits toward overdue fines, while helping those in need.
The program is simple: for every item you bring into any branch, you get $2 off your library fines up to $20. The food donated goes straight to the Together, Inc., a local food bank.
"It's not just enough to put a band aid on hunger," Craig Howell, the director of the Alliance for a Better Omaha, said. "We need to solve it."
