OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — To honor veterans, first responders and America's independence...the Benson Plant Rescue is holding a free plant distribution event.

The event began yesterday and will continue through Sunday.

“We had people here on the Fourth from the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and even Coast Guard,” said BPR co-founder Dr. David J. Hibler, Sr., “as well as from the fire and police departments.”

Organizers say it is an opportunity to honor "those who defend our freedom and assist us in need."

They say participants must show their i.d. and are eligible for:

  • A one gallon perennial
  • A 4" premium annual
  • A choice of an annual 4 or 6-pack

The event runs now through Sunday between 10am-6pm
