Fremont annexation approved for Costco plant

The Fremont city council approved unanimously the annexation of the land just south of the city to make way for the Costco chicken processing plant.

Dozens spoke out in favor and opposed to the project. Those for it say this will bring jobs and the project will bring in $1.2 billion dollars annually to the area, whereas the opposition said the plant would harm air and water quality, and the jobs will be low-paying.

The next step for the council is to approve of tax increment financing for the project.

That meeting takes place on July 12th.

The opposition to the plant said they will have their own town hall meetings starting on July 18th.
