OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — According to a post from Gross Catholic High School, Father Benliro, a former teacher who was living in Las Vegas, was killed in a car accident last Friday.

Las Vegas CBS affiliate KLAS-TV is reporting Benliro died due to multiple blunt force injuries sustained in a wreck which police believe was caused by two vehicles driving recklessly: Update: Police release cause of death and identity of victim killed in fatal crash

According to a report by the Metropolitan Police Department's Traffic Bureau, Police believe the two vehicles that struck Benliro's vehicle were traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone.

Father Benliro's nephew, Joseph Benliro, provided the following statement:

"He loved Omaha and the community there."

"Our main focus right now is to provide the best memorial and funeral service that our Beloved Fr. Fernando Benliro deserves. However, we also want to ensure that justice is done and executed to the full force of the law in relation to the senseless death of our Uncle Rev. Fr. Fernando Benliro. It appears that the bail requirements, here in Las Vegas, for vehicular homicide are lax as evidenced by the $5000 bail and the low monitoring of the drivers. We need stricter laws to save lives against reckless driving resulting in fatality. Fr. Benliro deserves better than this. No one deserves this especially him."
