Group to rally against OPPD rate proposal

Posted

A group hopes thousands of signatures will convince OPPD to pull the plug on a proposed rate change plan.

Tuesday morning, Bold Nebraska and other groups will turn in more than 2,500 signatures to OPPD’s board.

So here's what the proposed hike looks like. The utility company wants to triple the service charge by 2019, from 10.25 a month to $35, while lowering the usage rate for kilowatt hours.

OPPD said their revenue decreased. Factors include lower market prices, a stall in its customer base and households going green.

On the other hand, critics said the spike will stall the households of low-income customers and penalize those families trying to save money.

Bold Nebraska delivers the signatures after a rally Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. OPPD officially votes on the proposal Thursday.
