Groups honor MLK Day through events, service

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - As the nation gathers to reflect on the work of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., several groups in the metro plan to remember his work through community service and events.

Partnership 4 Kids and UNO's Thompson Learning Community
Pancake Breakfast
7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at 812 S. 24th Street

Students will host a meal for the public at no cost, but will accept donations to benefit the Alliance for a Better Omaha nutritiuion education program provided by the food pantry Together, Inc. 

College Possible, AmeriCorps host community service
9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at several locations

The partners are volunteering at several Omaha non-profits to help with cleaning, sorting, unpacking and organizing at Carole's House of Hope, No More Empty Pots, Lutheran Family Services and Foodbank of the Heartland.

Omaha Association of Black Professional Firefighters and the Great Plains Black History Museum
Wreath Laying Ceremony
9 a.m. at 2221 N. 24th Street

The event features remarks from dignitaries followed by walk-over to the museum.
