A homeowner's headache could make some elephant really happy.

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo is asking residents to consider bringing fallen branches from certain tree species to the zoo to give to some of the animals.

There are a few stipulations:

  • Branches from trees that have been treated for pesticides cannot be accepted.
  • Branches from trees that are dead, dying, or diseased cannot be accepted.
  • Branches from certain species of trees cannot be accepted, but the list of those the zoo will take is long: elm, hackberry, mulberry, birch, honey locust, linden, and willow are all species of trees the zoo will accept.

To verify the zoo will accept your branches, call 402-738-6947; or email browse@omahazoo.com.
