Temperatures in the Omaha metro are expected to climb in the mid to high 90s. A heat advisory has been issued as the heat index is supposed to reach more than 100.

Rockbrook Animal Clinic says this heat means it's dangerous to walk your dog on the hot concrete/asphalt. Within a matter of seconds,  the hot surface will burn your dog's feet, damaging the soft pads.

At 77 degrees — the asphalt will reach 125. At 86 degrees — it will reach 135. At 87 degrees - it will reach 143. Skin destruction can happen in just one minute when it reaches 77 degrees outside.

Rockbrook Animal Clinic veterinarians say to walk your dogs early morning or night and keep them on the grass.
