LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) - Today the cheer squad from the University of Nebraska, while getting ready ahead of this weekend’s big spring game, had some very special guests: the Burke Sparkles.
The group gives teens with intellectual disabilities the chance to cheer.
"I happened to be at a Husker game in October with some friends,” said Chris Guardiola, a Sparkles parent and organizer. “We were situated just above where the cheer squad was, so I walked down, and I talked to one of the cheer squad members, and I said, ‘Hey, who do I talk to?’
“They gave me the name of Eryn Butzke, the head of the cheer squad, and it went from there.”
Photojournalist Matt Swift was in Lincoln as the group learned a few routines ahead of game day.
