OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Hy-Vee announced they will distribute free masks to customers shopping in their stores starting next Monday.

In a press release sent Tuesday, the grocery store chain said they will hand out more than 3 million masks in an effort to assist the CDC's recommendation of wearing masks in public.

The effort is part of a new initiative called "Mask It Up To Shut COVID Down. It's Your Choice."

Starting on July 27, employees will be stationed at the front doors of all stores handing out masks to customers who aren't wearing one prior to entering the building.

Signs, employee attire and other reminders of the campaign will be on display around the store as well.

Hy-Vee employees have been wearing masks since nearly the beginning of the pandemic.
